Okay, it’s official. Mario Chalmers is now the most hated player on the Miami Heat in my eyes. I can’t stand this guy. Here’s the official quote coming from a question by Peter Emerick.
Peter Emerick: “Rajon Rondo recently said that he’s the NBA’s top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?”
Mario Chalmers: “He’s not the best, but he’s in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I am in the front end of the top 10.”
He’s a top five point guard in the league? You want to know something Mario? I’m pretty sure I could play your position. I could shoot wide open threes when teams leave me by myself in the corner. I could pass the ball to LeBron James or Dwyane Wade and go get out of their way and watch them score. I could let Rajon Rondo, a below-average jump-shooter, shoot J’s in my face all night and drop 44 on me in a playoff game.
I’m getting to the point where I hear an absolutely absurd statement every week but this one by Mario blew my doors off. This honestly made me laugh out loud. Not one of those constant laughs but one of those loud HA!’s.
He’s just proving to be that much more unlikable than LeBron, Wade, and the Bostrich. And if you don’t pay attention to the NBA, those three have drawn so much hatred in the past two years it’s unfathomable. Maybe Mario wanted in on the action. Maybe he likes being the villain? Or maybe he just doesn’t know that he should be a minimum salary player who’d be a bench warmer on a team that had an average point guard. I hope he’s ready for Norris Cole to take his job next year.
If Mario was wondering, here is the list of point guard who I rank above him (in no particular order):
Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, Brandon Jennings, Devin Harris, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Ty Lawson, Russell Westbrook, Mike Conley, Jameer Nelson, Jrue Holliday, Ricky Rubio, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Rodney Stuckey, Jason Kidd, Kyle Lowry, John Wall, and Andre Miller.
For those that lost count, that leaves him at number 24 on the list and I’m giving him the slight edge over Jeremy Lin, Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, and Brandon Knight. He could easily be number 29.
And just when I start hating these Heat players less…
LeBron just won a gold medal and the Bostrich acted in a hilarious Foot Locker commercial, but Mario has to run his mouth abut Rondo and tell everyone how he’s “on the front end of the top 10 point guards.” He should have just retired after his run at Kansas.
