The Bruins made a surprise pickup on Wednesday when they added former Senator Kaspars Daugavins (yes, that Kaspars Daugavins) after claiming him off of waivers. The Senators placed the 24-year-old forward on waivers on Monday.
It’s a low-risk, cheap move by B’s GM Peter Chiarelli that has the potential to give the Bruins roster a bit more depth on the bottom half. Daugavins is making just over half a million this year and will be a restricted free agent at season’s end. In 19 games for Ottawa this year, Daugavins tallied just one goal and two assists and was a minus-7 but had a solid role on the league’s second-ranked penalty kill in Ottawa.
