According to multiple sources, the Bruins have completed a deal with the Dallas Stars to acquire veteran forward Jaromir Jagr one day before the NHL trade deadline. In exchange for the 41-year old winger, the Stars will reportedly receive Bruins prospects Lane Macdermid, Cody Payne and a conditional second round draft pick.
Jagr will provide the Bruins with an additional scoring threat, added depth on offense and may provide a much needed boost to a woeful powerplay. After the Jerome Iginla fiasco last week, Jagr was considered to be the most coveted name left on the trade market heading into the deadline. His 14 goals would tie Brad Marchand for most on the Bruins.
In all likelihood, Jagr, who is a pending unrestricted free agent, will just be a quarter season (which means 14 games with this condensed schedule) rental for the B’s but, as we’ve seen in the past with guys like Mark Recchi, his veteran presence and contributions could make a world of difference in the latter half of the season and the playoffs.
