According to a report from TSN’s Bob McKenzie on Saturday, it’s very unlikely that Nathan Horton will be back with the Bruins next season.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said that he would like to re-sign Horton, whose current deal is about to expire, but, with the Bruins strapped for cash, it will be difficult. The 28-year old forward is looking for a long term deal at around $5-6 million per year.

The Bruins are still looking to re-sign Tuukka Rask and extend Patrice Bergeron while adding depth to their roster so unless Horton is willing to take a discount to stay with Boston, where he has played since arriving in a 2010 trade, it is unlikely he’ll be back in a Bruins uniform next season.

UPDATE: Horton has told the Bruins he will not re-sign and will test free agency.
