The Celtics missed out on the chance to draft Greg Oden thanks to some bad luck in the 2007 NBA Draft, but it appears that the team may wind up landing the big man a handful of years later anyways.
The C’s are reportedly one of five teams interesting in signing the 25-year old Oden, who has battled chronic knee injuries throughout the course of his disappointing NBA career thus far. Since being drafted by the Trail Blazers at #1 overall in 2007, Oden has undergone three microfracture knee surgeries.
Oden has only played in 82 regular season NBA games, averaging 9.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG. He hasn’t played since December 5th, 2009.
The San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies are also reportedly considering Oden.
The Celtics owned the second-worst record in the 2006-07 season and were favorites to wind up with one of the top two picks in the 2007 draft, but at the lottery they received the No. 5 pick, which they later packaged in a deal for Ray Allen.
