Ball girl forgets her role, tries to catch foul ball in play

Maybe it was a brain fart or maybe she just wanted a moment in the spotlight, but this ball girl forgot her role during Monday night’s Giants-Red Sox game in San Francisco. Sox shortstop Stephen Drew popped up an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the top of the ninth and the ball headed towards the ball girl’s area along the third base line.

But instead of getting out of the way like she’s taught to, the ball girl held her ground in pursuit of the foul ball and nearly interfered with Giants third baseman Joaquin Arias. Thankfully, the confused girl couldn’t make a play on the ball or prevent Arias from doing so, so crisis adverted.
