Jonny Gomes executed this great diving catch and unassisted double play during the 15th inning of Wednesday’s Red Sox-Mariners game in Boston, though the catch actually happened on Thursday as the game carried over past midnight.
Gomes’ 7 unassisted DP prevented the Mariners from taking the lead and the Sox went on to win 5-4 on a Stephen Drew walk-off single in the bottom of the inning.
This is what the leftfielder had to say about the play after the game:
Gomes on unassisted DP: "That was not on accident. I've waited years to do it. To play LF here, you have to be able to do extreme things."
