Alabama has long been known for their simplistic, traditional Crimson uniforms and avoiding the gimmicky trends that seem to overcome college football on a weekly basis. It seems crazy to think that the Crimson Tide would wear anything but Crimson on Saturdays, but that might be the case soon.
The official University of Alabama athletics website is offering a ‘blackout game’ Nike jersey which they say “will be worn by your favorite players during the 2013 Blackout Game.” The full listing reads as follows:
The Crimson Tide are built for hard-hitting, fast-paced gridiron action, and we know that’s exactly why you love them. Promote your Alabama gear to a level that’ll proudly flaunt your team’s skills and your own team dedication with this special Blackout Nike Limited jersey. Designed in the same styling as the gear your favorite players will wear on the field in the 2013 Blackout Game, it features strategic mesh ventilation, embroidered graphics and a tackle twill player number. Congratulations, you just upped your status to Ultimate Alabama Fan!
It’s hard to imagine ‘Bama wearing these jerseys without receiving a huge amount of negative backlash, not only because they ditch the traditional Crimson, but also because it’s just a terrible jersey. In all likelihood, it’s just a product to help the school make more money off their powerhouse football program. Don’t plan on seeing these hit the field any time soon.
