This season, the doors leading from Arizona State University’s locker room tunnel onto the field turf will be decorated with decals depicting Pat Tillman walking out onto that same field. It’s a pretty great move by the school to honor not only one of their own, but also to pay homage to an American hero.

Tillman, who played safety for the Sun Devils before becoming one of the Arizona Cardinals’ premiere defensive players, gave up football after the events of 9/11 to serve his country in Afghanistan. Tillman, while on a deployment as an Army Ranger in 2004, was killed in a firefight at the age of 27.
