Dan Boyle stretchered off the ice after a scary hit last night

One of the worst reoccurring images in hockey happened last night when San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle was stretchered off the ice after taking a heavy hit from St. Louis Blues forward Maxim Lapierre.

As you can see in the video, Lapierre catches Boyle in the numbers just as he is about to turn. The force of the check (along with a slight stumble) pushed Boyle’s jaw into the boards and knocked him out immediately.

Of course the question that follows a day after the hit is what kind of punishment should be dished out to the perpetrator. Lapierre has quite the rap-sheet so a lengthy suspension is likely. Helping that theory is the fact that Lapierre will meet in person with league officials which always spells trouble.
