In an interview earlier today, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall stated that he was the best point guard in the NBA. Does he have a point?
In a season where Chris Paul broke Magic Johnson’s record for most consecutive games with at least ten points and ten assists and is averaging 19.3 points, 12.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.4 steals a game on 45.7% shooting, nobody else can honestly say that they are the best point guard in the NBA. That said, John Wall is having an awesome season, averaging 19.5 points, 9.0 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals a game on 42.3% shooting. In addition, Wall is averaging career highs in both three point percentage (32.6%) and free throw percentage (86.8%). He has a PER of 21.4 and is currently leading the Wizards to a playoff berth, though in an admittedly weak Eastern Conference. He’s not quite a superstar, and he’s certainly not the best point guard in the league, but he will likely be an All-Star this season and he’s finally living up to his draft position.
