Calgary welcomes back Jarome Iginla in tremendous fashion

After playing 16 years in a Flames sweater and pretty much doing every thing but raise the Stanley Cup, Jarome Iginla returned to Calgary in an opposing team’s sweater for the first time ever last night. As expected, Flames fans welcomed back the longest tenured captain in franchise history with open arms (and then some).

The team put together a nice pre-game ceremony for Iggy’s return, and you can see the tribute above.

And while Iginla didn’t get on the scoresheet during the Bruins 2-1 win in Calgary, he was still honored as the game’s third star. As he skated out to be recognized, a few Bruins veterans wouldn’t let him get off the ice and urged him to take a victory lap around the Saddledome not once, but twice.

The majority of Flames fans remained in attendance to watch their former captain and the future Hall of Famer take two laps around the ice while giving him a much-deserved standing ovation. It was a pretty great moment.
