A scary moment occurred for Adam McQuaid and Bruins fans during the first period of game two between Boston and Philadelphia on Monday. McQuaid went for a big check on the Flyers’ Mike Richards and ended up completely whiffing, losing his balance, and crashing face first into the boards. The incident was eerily similar to the one that caused the Blackhawks’ Troy Brouwer to injure his shoulder towards the end of the regular season.
McQuaid, who laid dazed on the ground for a few minutes, didn’t return to the game and ended up being transported to a nearby hospital to undergo evaluation. Bruins coach Claude Julien said the defenseman would travel with the team back to Boston and expected there to be an update on McQuaid’s status tomorrow. I’m no doctor, but McQuaid, who is known for his toughness, didn’t look good after the collision. Despite coming off the ice under his own power, I’m expecting him to have a concussion. Hoping for the best though, he’s a big piece to this team.
UPDATE: Coach Julien is reporting McQuaid has suffered a sprained neck and is listed as “day-to-day.”
