This video comes from Great Britain’s Elite Ice Hockey League (which, coincidentally, isn’t very elite) and shows Kelsey Wilson of the Nottingham Panthers delivering what appears to be an unprovoked, vicious two-handed slash to the midsection of Simon Ferguson of the Sheffield Steelers.
Obviously it’s a terrible display of sportsmanship and completely unacceptable, but my question is why the hell didn’t Ferguson’s teammates come to his defense and beat the absolute snot out of Wilson after this incident? Instead, all they did was stand there and raise their arms to conjure a ruling from the officials.
If someone delivers a cheap shot of that quality, the referees shouldn’t be the only ones making sure justice is served.
And unbelievably, Wilson only received a three-game suspension from the EIHL for the slash. Three games? Are you kidding me?! That was borderline assault with a deadly weapon. The guy should have been suspended indefinitely or banned altogether. No excuse for crap like that.
