Six months ago the world’s jaw hit the floor when the news broke that former Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius had shot and killed his girlfriend in their South African home. He claimed that it was a case of mistaken identity, that he believed she was an intruder who had broken into the home. The National Prosecuting Authority doesn’t seem to agree. They will be filing indictment papers on Monday to Pretoria Magistrate’s Court with the charge of premeditated murder.
After conducting a six-month long investigation the police believe that Pistorius “had a charge to answer to” in the death of Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius had initially been charged for premeditated murder and released on bail on February 22nd while the investigation was carried out.
The trial will most likely occur in early 2014 and if he is found guilty he will face life in prison with a minimum sentence of 25 years.
